Travelling the long endless roads can be an adventure in itself, especially if you travel the outback dirt roads to get to your destination. it can be interesting and challenging at times, but the one thing it’s not is boring.

Description

Mount Augustus early morning.

I had read about Mount Augustus while researching for the trip into the Pilbara and Kimberlys, It it is claimed to be the world's largest Monolith ( mainly in tourist information ) but not substantiated by any research. Unlike Uluru, which is a monolith and, in general, devoid of plant growth, Mt. Augustus is a monocline (an asymmetrical anticline). Wikipedia. Photographic Mount Augustus required an early morning start so as to get that lovely warm glow on the rock. This also helped to hid the vegetation with is growing on the rock this then greater the effect that it looked more like Uluru. I had picked the location the day before and then at 5am in the morning set of in the Landrover. I don't think I was to popular in the campgrounds. but although I could have walked there I needed the top of the landrover as my shooting platform to get the best view of Mount Augustus. Once set up it was a matter of waiting for the right moment to come along .
